I LOVE this Muskox.
You probably know by now that I am particularly fond of all Muskoxen.
BUT this Uttaq Muskox delights the Modernist in me.
So what exactly is a Modernist sculpture?
Modernism rejects the realistic depiction of subjects.
The shapes, colours and lines of the work are innovative and experimental. This means there is a tendency toward Abstraction.
In summary, the piece can look like, well, anything.
Look at this beauty's head. Does it look like a large piece of steel? Like an anvil? .
The lines of the head, neck and back hump are exaggerated. They culminate in what looks to be a mountain top.
The point is, in Modern sculpture, realism is out; experimentation is in!
This Muskox is magnificent.
Do you have a place for him?
